The original Instructor Fundamentals Course (IFC) faced several challenges. Multiple individuals from around the globe were creating and delivering their own versions of the course. The core materials were developed by individuals who were not instructional designers, which was evident in the quality of the content.
Additionally, the materials being analyzed were outdated and, in some cases, contained significant errors. To address these issues, an initiative was launched in early 2020 to consolidate, streamline, and update the entire course. Since it's original revision, this Program has undergone several iterations, the latest of which is below.
All materials were carefully reviewed for content. Outdated information was removed, and revised regulations were examined. This process involved reviewing and analyzing over 100 PPT presentations and all supporting documents.
Additionally, we assessed EASA and FAA regulatory requirements from the past eight years, incorporating content as necessary. The curriculum was then developed using a backward design approach and rigorously evaluated against all regulatory standards. As regulation change, this Program is also updated to ensure compliance with EASA and FAA requirements.
The initial 27 modules were designed and developed using Storyline 360. The design and development phases occurred simultaneously, following an iterative model process.
Supporting materials, including animations, audio, images, and video, were created and gathered for inclusion in the eLearning course. These deliverables were then used to create the Professional Instructor Handbook, delivered via Rise to replace the static PDF original document and pushed using an internal, proprietary application.
A clean, modern, and unique training experience was delivered that exceeded all expectations. Gone were the flat, point-and-click PPTs and no engagement or dynamic delivery. Images, audio, and video were all used to enhance the eLearning delivery while the Rise version took the place of the static PDFs previously delivered, integrating Storyline blocks as needed to create a unique supportive experience.
Additionally, as this continues to be a "living" deliverable, as feedback is provided, and time goes on, the entire Program is revisited annually for updates and streamlining as needed.
