The original Instructor Fundamentals Course (IFC) had several issues to deal with - there were several people involved, all across the globe, designing and delivering their own versions; the core materials were developed by non-instructional designers (and it showed); and the material analyzed was outdated and, in some cases, blatantly erroneous. The initiative to consolidate, streamline, and update the entire Course was started in early 2020.
All materials were thoroughly reviewed for content. Outdated content was stripped while revised regulations were reviewed. This involved reviewing over 100 PPT presentations and all supporting documents. EASA and FAA regulatory requirements over the previous 8 years were also reviewed and content added as needed. The curriculum was then created using a backward design process and thoroughly vetted against all regulatory requirements.
The initial Modules (21) were designed and developed using Storyline 360. The design/development phase took place simultaneously using an iterative model process. Supporting materials, including all animations, audio, images, and video, were built, and supporting materials were gathered for inclusion in the eLearning. Then, those deliverables were used to build the Rise version which was designed to be pushed via a proprietary application and replace the static PDF of the Professional Instructor's Handbook.
A clean, modern, and unique training experience was delivered that exceeded all expectations. Gone were the flat, point-and-click PPTs and no engagement or dynamic delivery. Images, audio, and video were all used to enhance the eLearning portion while the Rise version took the place of the static PDFs previously delivered, integrating Storyline blocks as needed to create a unique supportive experience.
