L&D Management presented a vendored product for us to review. After analyzing the demo, it was determined to be nothing more than a SL project with a new way to present the summative assessment. Deciding to provide a truly unique experience, the proof of concept prototype was built over a weekend and presented to Learning and Development management the following week. Not complete, it showed the new business unit that we cold produce a better product internally, saving thousands of dollars.
Information Technology, a business unit within FSI, had paid an external vendor for their original materials, not knowing that HR Learning & Development (formally Teammate Training) was capable of designing and developing materials. Asked by management if we could do better, I took the task of building a quick prototype over the weekend to provide to L&D management the following week (2 day turnaround).
Rather than go with the traditional "professional" delivery look that was typically designed and developed, I decided to take a "fun" approach as there would also be game elements involved. Using Doodly for initial concepts and scenes, I edited those images in Photoshop and Illustrator to create a very streamlined delivery (15 minutes), presenting information in a more modern delivery with elements of multimedia and user-interaction throughout.
The result was met with great reviews by both L&D Management and the IT business unit leadership. The final/summative assessment consisted of branching scenarios that affected the final outcome as well as a Jeopard-style game, complete with variable adjustments (up and down), score tracking, and final results.
