The original course, provided by a third-party vendor, was less than ideal. Poor visual design, poor interactions, poor formative assessment opportunities, it was decided to prototype something that could be built internally utilizing those elements in the original that weren't awful (primarily, the video elements).
The original Course was painfully reviewed, several times, to ensure that all new content was relevant. Meetings with both HR Business Partners and leadership were held to propose the change from the third-party vendor deliverable to something built internally, focused on the organization's needs and aligned with their vision and mission statement.
The initial SCORM package's ZIP file was extruded and content researched to see what was viable, primarily, the videos used to support the original content. The original Course was again reviewed and content noted that was relevant to the company as well as local, state, and federal requirements. Deciding on a new approach, it was decided to utilize Articulate Rise 360 to build the new deliverable, utilizing the original content, information pulled from regulations located online, and supported with both formative and summative assessments as well as supplemental Storyline interactions.
A clean, modern, and unique training experience was delivered that exceeded leadership expectations. The deliverable, using the new design, was much more widely accepted by users within the organization as well as a huge reduction in the number of service tickets due to faulty development of the original. Additionally, seat time for the rebuild was reduced by 20%, resulting in a quicker turnaround of the deliverable and getting employees back to performing their duties.
