Course in action

The analysis / case study / need

Situation

Building off the need outlined in Cybersecurity 101, the second course was then revised and rebuilt, using the success of the Cybersecurity 101 course.

This course was used as a template, reducing overall development time significantly while maintaining the "branding" of the Internet Training Program, maintaining consistency of the courses.

Task

Again, I analyzed what content was common throughout and based this course's content on the common thread and current known threats that are present in the workplace with regard to safe internet practices.

ACTION

As this content would be covering some content that nearly everyone has come into contact with, I designed and developed introductory videos to address the concept as a whole (phishing, smishing, vishing, and quishing), while providing real-world example scenarios of each to demonstrate the attacks.

Focusing on phishing itself, as this is one of the most prevalent attacks in the work environment, a detailed scenario was developed and integrated, allowing the users to see actual examples of these types of emails from the corporate accounts.

result

Sanitizing the content to address all employees in both organizations kept focus on the content, not the business unit it was coming from or referencing. Because this was the second course in the Training Program, and using the first as the base, development time was reduced, thus allowing me to release it more quickly than the first.

  • Seat time was reduced by nearly 15 minutes from one of the originals, and by about 5 minutes from the other. This reduction in seat time, carried over to several thousand employees across both organizations, resulted in significant cost savings.
  • Because only need-to-know content was integrated, with real-world case studies and scenarios, the content was also more recent and thus more relevant to users as a whole (addressing my "Three R's Model").
